Beauty For Ashes

Globally, individuals in developing countries are responding to the needs of marginalized groups by providing resources to them in order to ensure that they thrive. Often times, the very individuals who are providing these resources lack the financial capital and backing necessary for sustainable change. These are communities and families torn apart by systemic inequalities that result in displacement and exclusion from the socioeconomic and sociopolitical landscape. Add to these systemic inequalities, war and conflict, and we can better understand how and why so many are in need.

One way that we can all contribute to the health of these communities is by focusing on work that ignites passion within us and intentionally supporting their work at the grassroots level. At Selahland, our focus is varied but always shines a spotlight on women and children because we believe that women and children are the most vulnerable and marginalized populations globally.

Below are a few ways that we intentionally move the ball forward on their behalf:

  • In partnership with Dinka®, we combat the effects of climate change and food insecurity by community funding the planting of trees and providing meals to kids in need.
  • Through our Social Justice and Peace Initiative, A Taste of Justice™, we promote peacebuilding, dignity, and respect for marginalized groups by shining a spotlight on discrimination, prejudice, and racism.
  • Via political and civic engagements and through our media offerings, we use our voices as truth-tellers to state the facts plainly in the pursuit of democracy and the emancipation of women.
  • By donating to and buying from cooperatives run by women, we fund our belief that women and girls deserve to live a life of happiness and leisure by way of economic freedom.

Organizing in support of girls and women at the grassroots level is a cornerstone of all advocacy work in order to effect change. When we empower girls and women, we are creating a stronger, more compassionate, and loving society.

“We do this important work to bring beauty to the lives of women and children where ashes were once their future.”
